There are many more searches where the site ranked #1 on two of the three search engines and then #2 on the third. The site also ranks #1 or #2 on many of the above searches when searching for "Tampa" instead of "New Tampa". The potential customers in this instance are very location specific, so having the right website traffic is more important then just having as much website traffic as possible. Still, this location specific site generated more then 55,000 visits in 2007 and more then 85,000 visits in 2008 with more then 75% of those visitors arriving from a generic search engine search. Nearly 10% of the other visitors were "direct traffic" from users that had previously bookmarked the site. Only 13% of visitors to the site came from referring sites, clearly this website traffic is driven by generic search engine traffic, with no expenses for AdWords.

Functionality is also a critical component for the RentNewTampa.com website. With all the traffic, it is important to turn a portion of that traffic into direct revenue. A shopping cart was added to sell downloadable rental lists to visitors. Further revenue generation from the website comes from Google AdSense which pays based on page impressions and click throughs, plus Text Link Ads which pays on a monthly basis for placement on the site. To further increase the revenue potential of this site, a new module was just developed to allow apartment complexes to feature their complex and units.The site has an integrated search function and a secure login for customers that are going to make an online purchase.

Needing some real improvement in order to drive more website traffic and reduce the expense of Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, we applied the Quick Boost Website Optimization for several keyword terms that the site needed to be optimized for. A significant gain in search engine rankings was realized in less then one month for targeted search terms.

Clearly, significant improvements have been achieved for all three search engines. The largest jump by far can been seen with the Yahoo search results, where the site did not rank for generic search results on the first 5 pages for three of the terms and now is on page 1 for all 5 terms.

The changes to the website were made without impacting any of the functionality of the shopping cart system currently being used by the customer that was provided by a different 3rd party vendor. Some improvements to rankings were seen in only a few days and the rankings continue to improve as the links generated are being found by the search engines.

Only one search term (router bits) remains off the first page of Google, which is not suprising considering how competitive this term is. Further optimization of incoming links will likely be the key to appearing at the top of page 1 of Google for the most competitive terms.
